Mutu pushed visitors to reckon with what and who has been excluded. In turn, we wanted to ensure that she was not excluded either.
We enlisted emerging African artists to reflect Mutu amongst her work — Ethiopian Director/Artsit, Dawit N.M. and Kenyan composer, Nyokabi Kariuki led the way in creating a film that leaned away from the expected interview format.

What was originally supposed to be a 2-minute video, became a 9-minute film/poem/prayer that extended the exhibiton to the screens of those that couldn’t not visit in-person.
As the exhibit wove throughout the entire spaces of the museum, we wanted to do the same online. By pushing against what is ‘best practice’, resulted in one of the most celebrated digital campaigns FAMSF has produced for an artist/exhibition.
